Events

There are a string of events here throughout the Summer. First is the classical concert by Adoramus Choir and Orchestra. If you did not come to the concerts in 2003 and 2006, you may not know the feast of excellent music that they bring. A Christian choir and orchestra of some 80 musicians drawn from over 30 churches in North London. They are wanting to raise funds to enable them to perform a number of mission concerts in Italy next Easter. The tickets may seem expensive at £12 & £10 conc's. But it is well worth it. The highlight of the evening will be Haydn's famous ˜Nelson Mass", written in 1798 during the time of the Napoleonic wars, and performed in Austria in 1800 in front of Admiral Nelson in honour of his great victory over the French fleet at Abukir. At first the Mass was entitled 'Mass in time of fear', because before news reached Austria about Nelson's naval victory, they were living in fear of Napoleon's unstoppable empire building in Europe. This will explain the mood of this piece which is a mixture of frenetic energy verging on panic, and bold triumph. You will be emotionally stirred, especially by the trumpets and drums.

The second half will be a contrast: the gentle ˜Water Music" of Handel, and some quieter songs from the Choir sung unaccompanied as they spread themselves into one large circle round the Church building. The evening will end with the last two section's of Handel's Messiah: ˜Worthy is the Lamb" and the ˜Amen Chorus".

After Church on Sunday 10th August we will be having a Church Family Picnic in Pymme's Park joining with people from our neighbouring Anglican Churches in Edmonton: All Saint's, St. Peter's, St. Alphege and St. John's Dysons Rd.

Moving on to Saturday 12th July we have the ˜Big Brew'.

Also on 12th July we have been invited to provide a team for an inter Church Quiz night at Edmonton Baptist Church, raising money for the Youth event in Jubilee park which I mentioned earlier. Would you like to join a St. Aldhelm's team? Please respond ASAP.

In the last week of July a small group are going to the New Wine camp in Somerset.

Murderer at the Vicarage!

-another chance to join in this fun evening

The first evening in March was a great success but several said that they were disappointed at being unable to come. We hope this new date suits.

Sunday evening

20th July 6pm.

David is wanting to raise some money for Adoramus orchestra and choir to go on a mission tour to Italy next year. It is an evening of dining and hilarious fun as we try and solve a mystery. Everyone is given a fictional name. As the evening unfolds we learn more and more about everyone at the table as well as ourselves. We all try to work who is most likely to have committed the murder. Even the person playing the murderer may not know it is he or she until the end.

Buy a ticket for £10 and enjoy a 4 course candlelit dinner; organic food and fine wines at the Vicarage. Your hosts; David & Mary. If you enjoy the evening you will be invited to make a donation to Adoramus.
