For events coming in the next few months please have a look at Events also for information about a "Summer course on Prayer" go to Our Faith page. St. Aldhelm's is hosting the special exhibition which outlines Enfield's history concerning the transatlantic slave trade 300 years ago. This will be in Church throughout August. If you want to have a good look at it at another time other than Sunday, just give a ring, and we will gladly open the Church for you. Do advertise it among your friends. and neighbours, - a good opportunity to show them around your Church! |
Our youngest young people have seized the initiative and asked if they could visit every letter box in the our Parish with a leaflet to promote our Church. They have thought this through and realise it will take them a week of their School holidays. But such is their enthusiasm that this is a sacrifice that are willing to make. They will begin work soon to help design the leaflet. And many of them are the same young people who will be serving at OASIS. Wow!
I'm glad to say that a small reward is coming their way. We are at the planning stage for a major youth event to be staged at Jubilee Park for 10 days, beginning the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August. There will be bands, inspiring teaching, youth cafe and activities during the week. It is drawing upon young people not only in the Edmonton area, but from other Church youth groups in North Finchley, Barnet, Burnt Oak, Wood Green, Hackney, Islington, Hornsey etc. Christian young people love to meet in large events. It gives them encouragement that they are not as small a minority as they fear. Details will be given out on Sundays as the time approaches. |
With much love and thanksgiving we remember Da Costa Small who died on 21st June.

As we go up to the secondary age, there is even more to get involved with. For the 5th year we are running our OASIS ˜Holiday at home" for the elderly with the help of our young people. The dates are 4th - 9th August. The contribution of our young people will be under the leadership of Peggy and Lesley Bashford. Speak to them if you would like to be involved. |

Although our Annual Meeting is nearly two months away, we do need to be thinking now about election of officers and especially a new Churchwarden and Treasurer. Don't hold back, but speak to one of us about whether this could be a good area for you to serve in your church
New law about ‘No smoking’ The new law about no smoking in public places affects both our buildings – Church and hall. Although we cannot remember the last time when someone tried to ‘light up’ in Church – we now have to display a notice that tells them it is against the law. If we don’t display it, it is we who are breaking the law!

Following on from the successful Gospel concert campaign against guns knives and drugs, we are looking at exporting the follow-on concert to the stage of Jubilee park. Please pray about all these events which could have a major impact on all young people of Edmonton. As we move up the age range we need to make an urgent appeal for helpers with our Children and youth work. The number of children who come on a Sunday morning has been gradually increasing, and we just do not have enough team. There is nothing to be afraid of we will not give you a group of noisy children! You will be working in a team, alongside one other person. For those who grow in their leadership we will give training and pay for you to go on training courses. We do see our numbers steadily increasing in months and years to come, which makes the need for adults even more urgent.
Older young people are eligible as helpers, and might also consider other areas of service. We need one or two young people or adults willing to help as a "server" in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings. We also need one or two young people or adults to help with the weekly projection. For many months now it has fallen on Christian alone, who has been very faithful. Please do mention to David if you would be willing to help in any of these areas.

Join your local hospital The North Middlesex University Hospital is applying to become a Foundation Trust. By becoming a Foundation Trust, we will have greater freedoms in meeting the needs of our patients and local community. We would like local people as well as patients and their carers to become members of the Hospital. Members can get involved as much or as little as they want and membership is free. By becoming a member, it will give you the chance to show your support and loyalty for your local hospital, while helping the Hospital to develop and design services that patients, carers and the people of Enfield and Haringey want.
Members will be the first to hear about developments at the Hospital and get regular newsletters. They can also vote in elections and stand to become one of our public or patient Governors. Alongside this, we are also looking at other benefits for members, e.g. patient and public members can now use NHS Discounts scheme! Interested? Membership details in Church Office. |
We shall begin preparation soon for the OASIS week 4th-“ 8th August. As in previous years, this can involve anyone and everyone in some way. We will need loan of furniture to deck out the halls to give a ˜hotel' feel. A team of adults to help prepare food and wash up, drivers, clean and tidy the halls, and many small tasks. Also you can contribute financially towards the costs of the afternoon teas and entertainment.
Congratulations to Joanne Archer on the birth of a baby girl, Akilah Laola (unsure of spelling!). Sonia Chin features in an exhibition and film at the Jeffreye Museum in Bethnal Green, for the next few weeks. It follows how 3 people cope with a very painful illness. If you can, get down to see it, and make some notes to include in the next magazine, please.
We are very grateful to Roger Gleave who installed an alarm for us in the Church Vestries. We now feel the Church is more secure. Don't go into that area unless you know the code for switching off the alarm. We are very happy to give this code to anyone who comes into the Church regularly, such as those on the flower and cleaning rotas.

Pastors
in Enfield
PC Garret Pennery, Faith officer for Enfield writes... If you read in the Bible how the local authorities supported the Christian church in sharing their faith in a practical way, by encouraging Christians to represent the Church on the streets of the main city, then you might say to yourself “if only that was like that now”! Well, it is, and has been like that for the past few years! Being a Street Pastor is about demonstrating God’s Love by giving up one day a month, to be a visible presence on the streets of Enfield. NOT being a police officer but representing the church. Being on hand to share Hope with the community. As well as one night a month, local police often ask for Street Pastor volunteers to be in areas where serious crimes have been committed and therefore they get the opportunity to reassure our community. If
there are no Street Pastors within your church then I have to ask
the question “why not?” |
